Gogh Big or Go Home – #13

I survived the Epoxy workshop – it truly was touch and go, by the time I arrived in Kingston to pick up Jo-anne. I had already messaged her, asking for her to drive to the event, and had a decent meltdown in her driveway.

I didnt fold tho, and we carried on to the hotel, and were led on a merry chase til we found the right room.

It was far from what i expected, and I’ll be more diligent b4 signing up for things in future. Nothing against the organizers, but having worked with wood, I did have higher expectations than the cost of the class allowed (was told this when I challenged the quality of the board I had to work with).

It took me a bit of time to pivot, and let go of my mental image of the final product … but I did, and THAT was my major win of the day.

When I realized my plan was NOT going to happen, I took it in an entirely different direction, and created a piece of art instead… not a functional, usable charcuterie board.

Blue and yellow are my kitchen colours (actually my bedroom too), so that’s where I began. Starry Night by Van Gogh is always a fave, so that was the inspiration for the piece, and when I showed the instructors my study model, they did roll their eyes a bit and suggested I lower my expectations just a little bit! Lol.

I wasn’t expecting the long periods of standing, nor the steady downward pull on my neck, as i looked down (while standing) for long periods of time. I’m paying the severe price today.

I did eventually get distracted enough to get into the project, and had fun (??) playing around with the different colours, trying to replicate my vision in some way.

All the other participants roamed around looking at all the variety of ideas that were unfolding in that room. Some amazing pieces were created, and ones that I would have gladly purchased. Most people looking at mine immediately thought of Ukraine (her national flag colours), so that became a more fitting tribute, instead of paying Vincent a nod, lol.

There was a delightful young man in the class named Elliot who became my biggest supporter and shamelessly fed me compliments, making me actually laugh in embarrassment. His piece was fabulous, and I truly hope he continues on in his artistic quests. His folks have done a fine job in raising him so far…and I told them both that!

A big thanks to JoJo for getting me through the event, and collecting my finished projects today, on my behalf.

Back to my comfortable crochet, hot water bottle and my chair today!
